TJ Brodie Scores First Career NHL Goal

Dresden’s TJ Brodie has notched another NHL first, scoring his first career NHL goal. The Calgary Flames rookie defenseman, who made his debut last season playing 3 games, scored during the first period of a 5-2 win over the Minnesota Wild Sunday night.

The goal came at 8:45 of the first period, with assists going to Matt Stajan and Tim Jackman. In 8 games this season following his recall from the Abbotsford Heat of the AHL, Brodie has notched two assists, and now his first goal. Brodie’s goal came as he pinched in a slipped a backhand 5-hole on Niklas Backstrom.

Last season TJ Brodie, the 114th overall pick of the Calgary Flames in 2008, was an American Hockey League All-Star playing 68 games and scoring 34 points in Abbotsford before his season was prematurely ended due to a high ankle sprain.

Mark Giordono, Lee Stempniak, Alex Tanguay, and Jarome Iginla also scored for Calgary in Sunday’s game, while Cal Clutterbuck and Nick Johnson scored for the Minnesota Wild.
