Vellinga Making Huge Strides in Recovery

Wife of former Chatham-Kent hockey player Mike Vellinga, Andrea, who was seriously injured in the stage collapse at the Indian State Fairgrounds in August, is making huge strides in her recovery. In fact, doctors and friends aren’t afraid to call Vellinga’s recovery a “miracle.”

Vellinga who was in a coma following severe head injuries suffered during the stage collapse at a Sugarland concert, is undergoing 5-hours of therapy each day, and recently was able to share a note (pictured above) with friends that quickly went viral on Facebook.

Andrea’s husband Mike, who hails from Chatham, was a 7th round draft pick of the Chicago Blackhawks in 1996 while playing with the OHL’s Guelph Storm, before playing 10-years of professional hockey in the CHL, ECHL, IHL, and AHL.

Vellinga remains hospitalized months after her injuries, but continues her road to recovery.
