Chatham-Kent Sports Year in Review: January 2011
The highlight of January 2011 can’t be disputed. It has to be Wallaceburg’s Shaun Suisham and his run to the Super Bowl. All of Chatham-Kent watched as Suisham helped his team advance to the big game. Take a moment to look back at a few Chatham-Kent sports highlights from January 2011:
- January 7 – The Eastern Michigan University Eagles took on a team of Great Lakes Junior C All-Stars. The Great Lakes team, lead by Tyson Isaac of the Wallaceburg Lakers, and Thomas Innes and Taylor Phillips of the Blenheim Blades defeated the EMU Eagles 8-2, sending a message about the quality of play in the Great Lakes loop. - January 11 – The Chatham Outlaws took home the Peewee B championship at the Guelph Thunder tournament. The tournament win marked a highlight in the Outlaws season. Read about the Chatham Outlaws tournament win here…
- January 15 – Dresden’s TJ Brodie was announced as a participant in the AHL All-Star game. Brodie starred for the Abbotsford Heat after making the Calgary Flames out of training camp. Read about TJ Brodie’s AHL All-Star selection here…
- January 16 – Shaun Suisham and the Pittsburgh Steelers started their amazing playoff run by advancing to the AFL Final after defeating the Baltimore Ravens. Read more about Shaun Suisham’s first playoff win here…
- January 24 – Only a week later, Suisham and the Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the New York Jets in the AFC final to send the Wallaceburg kicker to Super Bowl XLV. Read about Shaun Suisham’s AFC Final win here…
- January 25 – Wallaceburg’s Seth Griffith is awarded OHL Player of the Week honours after scoring 2 goals and adding 6 assists in a 3 game span. Read more about Seth Griffith’s OHL Player of the Week honours here…
- January 31 – To close the month, it all came back to Wallaceburg’s preparations for Shaun Suisham’s appearance in Super Bowl XLV. The entire town was busy at work preparing for the celebrations, game day parties, and messages they planned to send to their town here.
