Chatham-Kent Sports Year in Review: November 2011
2011 went out quieter than it came in. Chatham-Kent sports highlights seemed to slow down a bit, but with an unforgettable football run, and firsts for some local athletes at the professional level, it still proved to be an amazing November.
Here is a look at the month that was in Chatham-Kent sports for November 2011:
- November 5 – The Wallaceburg District Secondary School Tartans captured their first Kent Senior Football Championship in a decade. The WDSS Tartans did so in convincing fashion ending the season undefeated, including a 38-12 win over the CKSS Golden Hawks in the Kent Final. - November 9 – In sad news, legendary coach Dan Lewis had his battle with brain cancer come to an end as the Hall of Fame coach passed away at the age of 58. Lewis won several OFSAA gold medals and was inducted as a builder into the Chatham Sports Hall of Fame. Read more about Dan Lewis here…
- November 10 – Wallaceburg’s Seth Griffith was super for the OHL in their 10-7 win in the Subway Super Series over team Russia. Griffith, who plays for the London Knights, scored a goal and added 2 assists in the game, while playing key minutes on the penalty kill. Read more about Seth Griffith and the Subway Super Series…
- November 12 – It may not be a “highlight” per say, but CKSN added some new technology to our repetoire in November including video and audio recording allowing us to improve coverage. For example, in mid-November we covered an Edmonton Oilers vs. Detroit Red Wings game taking time to interview Chatham’s Ryan Jones. See the video interview with Ryan Jones here…
- November 18 – Despite his on field struggles this season which included a variety of injuries, Chatham’s Andy Fantuz was still receiving honours, including being named the official ambassador for the 47th Vanier Cup, which turned out to be one of the best games in CIS history. - November 18 – The Chatham-Kent Secondary School Golden Hawks were golden in SWOSSAA volleyball defeating the Sandwich Sabres. With no OFSAA at the Junior level, this marked the pinnacle of the season for the Junior Boys. Read about the CKSS Junior Volleyball team…
- November 24 – Capping off their unforgettable season, the WDSS Tartans continued their football dominance winning the SWOSSAA title by defeating Kennedy 35-7. - November 27 – After being cut by the Calgary Flames in training camp, Dresden’s TJ Brodie quickly rebounded and found a regular spot in the Flames’ NHL roster.
