Chatham’s Ashley Glassco Off to Skating Challenge
From Nov.30th – Dec.4, the Co-Operator Centre in Regina will see over 500 skaters from across Canada who will compete at the “2012 Skate Canada Challenge”. The competitors will be vying for a medal in Pre Novice, Novice, Junior and Senior levels. Each of the skaters had to qualify at their respective Sectional Competition in order to advance to the Challenge.
This national event will even see the crowning of the 2012 Canadian Pre-Novice Champion in Women, Men, Pair and Ice Dance categories. Glassco, who competes at the Pre-Novice Women’s level, will be competing against 51 other skaters from across Canada to make their attempt for this national crown. The remaining medalists from Novice to Senior, will advance to the 2012 Canadian Figure Skating Championships and the 2012 Skate Canada Junior Nationals.
Glassco will perform her Short Program on Friday and her Free Skate Program on Saturday.
The Grade 10 student from John McGregor High School, is not going into this competition with any expectations. She wants to go and have a good experience. Glassco wants to skate her best, but hopes that her hard work throughout the year will carry her through.
Glassco skates numerous hours in Chatham and even travels to Windsor throughout the week. She spends her entire summers training in Barrie at the International Mariposa Skating School.
