Erica McFadden Commits to the University of Guelph Gryphons
McFadden, a former Chatham-Kent Secondary School student who moved to Alma, near Guelph, with her family following her grade 10 season, where she was back to back league MVP.
“I was born in Chatham and moved to Alma in Wellington County in 2010. Any success I have had is due to the hard work of many dedicated coaches,” said McFadden in an official Guelph Gryphons press release.
McFadden chose the University of Guelph over several other schools that recruited her from across Canada and the United States.
McFadden’s success on the basketball court has not simply been at the local and high school levels. In 2010 she captured a Canadian National silver medal with Team Ontario, before winning gold at the National Championships in 2011.
In the same release from the University of Guelph, Gryphons Women’s Basketball coach Tom O’Brien had this to say about Chatham’s Erica McFadden, “Erica is a great recruit for our program and she is CIS ready having played at an elite level for a number of years.”
“Erica is the consummate point guard. She handles and distributes the ball very well. She is also a very good shooter which will allow us to play her at the two guard position on occasion. I am sure that Erica will have great success at the university level,” O’Brien explained.
McFadden will attend the University of Guelph next season where she will pursue a pyschology degree.
