Kings Edge Blenheim Blades in Great Lakes Clash
The Dresden Kings put on a show for their hometown crowd Friday night edging the Blenheim Blades 3-2.
Dresden rookie Macks Holmes opened the scoring in the first period with helpers going to veterans Dylan Mertz and Jesse Allen. Entering the second period up 1-0, Blenheim bounced back scoring the next two goals of the game.
Nathan Puchnatyj opened the scoring for Blenheim on the powerplay, before Neven Wiebenga scored a shorthanded marker to put the Blades ahead 2-1. With less than a minute remaining in the period though, new Kings pick up Jeremy Griffore scored on the powerplay to tie the game 2-2 heading into the third period. Assisting on the goal were Wendel Mertz and Jim Rouse.
After playing much of the third period scoreless, Dylan Mertz found the back of the net with less than four minutes remaining, a lead the Dresden Kings would not give back. Picking up helpers on the game winning goal were Allen and Wendel Mertz.
Dresden travels to Kingsville Saturday to play the Comets, while Blenheim welcomes the Alvinston Flyers to town Sunday.
