Maroons Drop Important Game in Leamington
The Chatham Maroons had a chance to grab 5th place in the GOJHL Western Conference, however they fell 3-1 to the Leamington Flyers on the road.
For Leamington, the win, on their annual Teddy Bear night, was their 5th consecutive victory on home ice.
Former Flyers defenseman Burke D’Souza opened the scoring for Chatham midway through the first period, assisted by his defense partner Ben Pataki. Unfortunately for the Maroons however, this would be their only goal of the game.
Before the period ended, Nicholas Nicodemo scored to tie the game at 1-1.
After D’Souza went to the box less than a minute into the second period for hooking, Leamington capitalized on the powerplay on a goal by Cheyne Matheson.
To cap of the scoring, Jacob Henrikson potted another for the Flyers lifting them to 3-1.
Sunday, Chatham welcomes the Lasalle Vipers to town for their final game until the New Year. If Lasalle wins, they will pull even with the Maroons in the standings.
