Ryan Jones Scores Third Period Hat Trick to Lift Oilers to Win

Ryan Jones made his first career multi-goal game count Friday night as he helped his Edmonton Oilers rally to a 6-3 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets by scoring a third period hat trick.

“I’ve never scored two in a game, so just to get two is amazing,” Jones said in a post game television interview, “It’s a great feeling.”

Entering the third period, the Edmonton Oilers trailed 2-1, but wouldn’t for long, as Jones got his first of the game on a wrap around from Ryan Smyth and Ryan Whitney to tie the game at 2-2.

After Ladislav Smid put the Oilers ahead, Jones would score his second of the game, the eventual game winning goal, assisted by Eric Belanger and Magnus Paajarvi.

After exchanging goals, Edmonton Oilers captain Shawn Horcoff helped Jones achieve his first career hat trick, by feeding the Chatham, Ontario product on a 2-on-1 with the Columbus net empty. Jones made no mistake burying his third goal of the game.

As the ice in Edmonton was flooded by hat’s, the Oilers fan faithful chanted “Jonesy” in recognition of Jones’ amazing third period where he lifted the Oilers onto his back and lead them to the win.

Jones now has 9 goals and 14 points through 26 points, putting him on pace for 28 goals this season, which would eclipse his career high of 18 goals he scored last season.
