Three Chatham Maroons Selected for GOJHL Top Prospects Game

January 16, three Chatham Maroons hockey players will have their opportunity to showcase their skills at the GOJHL Top Prospects Game.

Goaltender Hunter Johnson, forward Michael Verboom, and defenseman Steven Szekesy will take part in the game which is scheduled to be played at Vollmer Arena in LaSalle.

Hunter Johsnon has faced the bulk of the action recently for the Chatham Maroons boasting a .902 save percentage. Johsnon, who attends Chatham-Kent Secondary School is a Wyoming product who has played for the Chatham-Kent Cyclones and Lambton Jr. Sting. Johnson was a draft pick of the OHL’s Erie Otters in 2010.

Steven Szekesy of Belle River, is the Chatham Maroons leading point getter from the blueline this season tallying 3 goals and 23 assists in 35 games. Szekesy, a Junior B rookie played last season for the Windsor Spitfires Major Midget team.

Michael Verboom, who played 11 games last season for the Chatham Maroons while leading the Chatham-Kent Cyclones Major Midget AAA team in scoring, will also represent the Maroons at the annual prospects game. In 34 games for the Maroons this season, Verboom has scored 13 goals and 21 assists, for 34 points.

Game time is 7:00pm January 16 in LaSalle. Tickets are $5.00 per person and free for children six and under.
