Undefeated U10 Chatham Thunder Win Gold in St. Mary’s
The Cement Man U10 Chatham Thunder Ringette team attended the St Mary’s first annual tournament this past weekend, taking home the Gold Medal.
Chatham opened the tournament playing a very strong team from Waterloo. We trailed by 2 after two minutes of play. The Thunder rallied back scoring three in a row. Courtney Legere netted those goals assisted by Emilie Newman and Natasha Anderson. Waterloo answered with another goal shortly thereafter and Courtney Legere answered unassisted with 4 seconds remaining in the first period. The score at the end of the first period was 4-3 in favour of Chatham. Waterloo opened the scoring in the second period tying the game after just 36 seconds in. Four minutes later Natasha Anderson scored a goal assisted by Courtney Legere. A minute later Waterloo scored, followed by another two goals from Legere, assisted by Camille Blain and Natasha Anderson. At this point the score was 7-4 in favour of Chatham. Waterloo would rally for two more goals but Chatham was victorious with a 7-6 win over Waterloo.
The Thunder would go on to soundly beat the host team, St Marys with a 7-2 win. Courtney Legere scored 4 goals, Camille Blain, Lydia Harron, and Erica Anderson also scored. Natasha Anderson, Camille Blain, Lydia Harron, Erica Anderson and Ireland Dasilva each had an assist. Chatham’s third game of the tournament saw Chatham post a 6-1 Victory over Tillsonburg. Emilie Newman scored unassisted. Natasha Anderson scored two unassisted goals. Courtney Legere, Camille Blain and Lydia Harron each scored assisted by Kylyn Murphy, Erica Anderson and Natasha Anderson respectively. Three straight wins slotted us against Waterloo in the Gold medal game.
Waterloo came on strong early in the game scoring first. Chatham would go on to score 4 goals to Waterloo’s 3 goals in the first period. Emilie Newman, Lydia Harron posted one each, with Courtney Legere pocketing two. Assists were by Shelby Ritzer, Ireland Dasilva and Emile Newman. Waterloo was stymied by Audrey Mackay-Barr, in goal, during the second period. Courtney Legere and Erica Anderson would net 3 more, ending in a 7-3 Gold medal victory over Waterloo. The Cement Man U10 Chatham Thunder are still undefeated.
