Bednarik Grabs Relay Gold at Can-Am Classic in Windsor

Chatham’s Thomas Bednarik enjoyed a successful weekend at the Can-Am Classic hosted by the University of Windsor Lancers. Bednarik, a graduate of Chatham-Kent Secondary School is in his first season with the University of Western Ontario track and field team.

Held at the St. Dennis Athletic and Community Center, this was the 31st Can-Am Track Classic.

Western took home first in the 4×200 relay event as Bednarik, and teammates Elias Granillo, Brayden Bullen, and Miguel Wason crossed the finish line at 1:28.73, less than half a second ahead of second place Windsor.

In long jump, Bednarik finshed 7th, with a top jump of 6.94m. The jump fell just shy of Bednarik’s season standard he set when he jumped 6.96m at the Season’s Opener Meet in London.

In his only other event, Bednarik finished 19th in the 60m dash.

The next meets for Western’s Track and Field team are the Fred Foot Pentathalon Meet at Toronto on January 20, followed by the Don Wright Meet at Western on the 21st.
