Chatham Thunder U12 Win Gold in Tillsonburg

The Boston Pizza U12 Chatham Thunder ringette team came home with Gold Medals Sunday from the Tillsonburg Ringette Tournament.

The U12 team captured gold in an exciting overtime win against host Tillsonburg, lead by a 5 goal performance from Abbie Chandler, including the OT winner.

The U12 Thunder’s first win of the tournament came against Niagara Falls 5-1. Abbie Chandler scored twice along with single goals by Niyah Poole, Sorcha Rountree and Rachel Benn. Evelyn MacKay-Barr, Emily Raaymakers, Niyah Poole and Chantelle Legere all provided one assist.

Chatham then played Dorchester in game two and skated to a 9-1 win. Regan Owen and Chandler both scored three goals in this game. Raaymakers, Benn, and Rachel Carleton all added single goals. Chantelle Legere had three assists.

The final game of the round robin was playing the hometown team of Tillsonburg. The Chatham Thunder came up short in the hard fought game 6-4. Chandler scored twice and Legere and Raaymakers added singles.

The gold medal game was a re-match with Tillsonburg. The Tillsonburg Twisters tied the game with only 12 seconds remaining and forced an overtime. Although the Chatham Thunder played shorthanded in overtime, down two players, they worked hard and scored the winning goal in 10 seconds to win 7-6. Chandler scored 5 goals in this win including the game winner in OT. Rachel Benn and Evelyn McKay-Barr added single goals. Legere had three assists.

Olivia Eskritt was the winning goalie for the U12 Chatham Thunder.
