Chatham Thunder Teams Rack Up Medals at Burlington Ringette Tournament
All three Chatham Thunder teams attending the Burlington Ringette Tournament over the weekend came home with medals.
The U12 Boston Pizza Regional B Chatham Thunder team won silver in overtime. The U12 team were unbeaten in their round robin play and advanced to the final game on Sunday morning. Although they defeated the Hamilton Heat in their opening game 6-2, the Heat were too hot to handle in the finals and the Thunder lost in overtime 6-5 to win silver.
The team played the home town team of Burlington in their second game of the round robin and skated to a strong 11-1 win.
The final game of the round robin was against Forest and again the Thunder roared to a 9-1 win to end the round robin undefeated advancing to the medal game of the tournament.
The scoring was shared across the team. Abbie Chandler led the Thunder in the tournament with 10 goals, while Emily Raaymakers had 6, Rachel Carlton 3, Evelyn Mackay-Barr 3, Chantelle Legere 2, Sorcha Rountree 2, Regan Owen 2, Niyah Poole 1, Emily Anderson 1, and Rachel Benn 1.
Olivia Eskritt was in net for the Chatham Thunder.
After a break for the holiday season, the Chatham Unigasco Junior A Ringette Team started 2012 with a silver finish at the Burlington tournament on the weekend. After going 3-1 in round robin and a strong semi-final win, they lost a tough battle with the hometown Burlington team to finish second on the weekend.
The girls met Forest first thing Friday morning and suffered their first loss, 5-3. They then went on to beat Seaforth 8-3, Paris 10-2, Burlington 5-4 and Elora-Fergus in the semi-final 5-3.
They lost the gold medal to Burlington, 4-2, Sunday afternoon. Nicole Hook and Lindsay Chandler each had hat tricks, and scored 11 goals each over the weekend. Hook also had 6 assists. Kara Hueniken added 3 goals and 8 assists. Hannah Doforno had 3 goals and 4 assists, Jane Vanoirschot had 3 goals and 1 assist. Miriam Alshibli had 2 goals and 3 assists, while Madison Goodwin and Riley Kay each added 2 assists to the effort. Alissa Reid was phenomenal between the pipes all weekend for the Thunder.

Thanks for the update Jay and congrats to the Tweens! If I had known they won I definitely would have featured that fact. If you know someone from the team who can submit results that would be appreciated. We didn’t get any info from this team this week. Thanks again.

The Chatham Maple City Electric Tween ‘A’ Thunder won gold medals for the second consecutive week Sunday at the Burlington Blast Tournament.
Rachel Roberts scored twice in a 6-2 win over Forest in the final. Tristan Stewart had one goal and three assists Vivian Dowdal, Tess Scaman and Brooke Marchand also scored.
Goaltender Sarah Woods earned the win.
Chatham reached the final by going 2-2 in the round-robin.
Carys Owen had a hat trick in a 4-3 loss to Burlington in the opener. Julia Stephens had two assists.
Jordan Dziver and Stewart each had a hat trick and one assist in a 10-1 win over Nova Scotia.
Owen, Stephens and Roberts added a goal and an assist apiece, Marchand also scored and Scaman had two helpers.
Stewart picked up three more goals and two assists in a 9-2 win over Guelph. Owen scored twice.
Stephens, Jordan Dziver and Taylor Dziver each had a goal and an assist, Dowdal also scored and Scaman had three assists.
Stewart scored one goal and set up Scaman for the other in a 5-2 loss to Forest in the round-robin finale.
