Cox Lifts Chatham Maroons to OT Win Over Lincolns in Return
Troy Cox opened the scoring in the game late in the first period potting an unassisted marker. With only a second left on the clock, Sean Consitt put a shorthanded goal by new Maroons goaltender Gianluca Palmieri, who was making his debut for the Maroons.
Steven Szekesy scored his 4th of the year in the second period to put the Maroons up 2-1, before Cox, who hasn’t played a game since late October, scored on the powerplay midway through the third period to extend the Maroons lead to 3-1.
St. Marys however would claw back scoring twice late to tie the game at 3-3 and send it to overtime. Former Wallaceburg Laker who was recently acquired from the Lambton Shores Predators scored the tying goal with 1:21 left in the game and the goalie pulled, and also assisted on Tyson Baker’s goal which pulled the Lincolns within one.
As the clocked ticked down in overtime, another veteran Chatham player, captain Sean Myers, lifted the team to an important road win scoring the game winner, assisted by Michael Verboom and Ian Jacobs.
Palmieri made 39 saves in his Chatham Maroons debut. Chatham welcomes the Sarnia Legionnaires to town Sunday night at 7:00pm at Memorial Arena.
