Maroons Fall to Legionnaires in Overtime

After defeating the St. Marys Lincolns in OT late last week, the Chatham Maroons couldn’t repeat the trick Sunday night against the Sarnia Legionnaires falling 4-3 in overtime.

Marco Canzoneri opened the scoring for the Maroons midway through the first period before a pair of goals by Jason Teschke, including a shorthanded marker with a minute to go in the period put the Legionnaires ahead 2-1.

In a reunion of last season’s Chatham-Kent Cyclones Major Midget AAA team, Nate Pietens scored the only goal of the period, assisted by his former Cyclones teammates, and current Maroons Michael Verboom and Trevor Richardson.

Brennan Feasey put the Maroons up, giving them their only lead of the game at 5:35 of the third period, assisted by Pietens and Sean Myers, but the first place Sarnia Legionnaire weren’t done.

Derek D’Andrea tied the game less than a minute after Feasey’s tally, before Jesse Drydak slid one past Maroons goalie Hunter Johnson only 26 seconds into the extra frame to lift Sarnia to the overtime victory.

Chatham travels to LaSalle this Wednesday before welcoming Leamington to Memorial Arena next Sunday.
