Quick Start Propels Alvinston to Win Over Lakers
The Alvinston Flyers put the Wallaceburg Lakers in an early hole which they couldn’t recover from Wednesday evening at Wallaceburg Memorial Arena. Alvinston scored twice in the first 10-minutes en route to a 4-2 win over the hometown Wallaceburg Lakers.
Just two minutes into the game, Kyle Cutler put one behind Wallaceburg goalie Devin Cove. Before hitting the halfway mark of the first period, Chris Edwards added to the lead making it 2-0 for the Flyers.
Scott Lubbers put Wallaceburg back into the game scoring late in the first period with assists going to Tyson Isaac and Lucais Meyskens.
In the second period, the Flyers took back over with Nick Kowaluk scoring to regain the 2-goal lead, followed by Edwards scoring his second of the game to make the score 4-1 for Alvinston after 40-minutes. After two fighting majors in the second period, the Wallaceburg Lakers, already struggling to ice a full roster, would enter the third period with only 12 skaters.
Brandon Burr scored the only goal in the third period, capping off Alvinston’s 5-1 win over Wallaceburg. Wallaceburg now has a week off before welcoming the Dresden Kings to town next Wednesday.
