Verboom Lifts Maroons to Much Needed Win Over Predators
With only five points separating the teams for the 8th and final playoff spot in the GOJHL Western Conference heading into Sunday night’s game, the Chatham Maroons picked up a much needed 3-2 win over the Lambton Shores Predators. Michael Verboom lead the Maroons with 2 goals and an assist.
Opening the scoring in the first period was Brennan Feasey who capitalized off a turnover deep in the Lambton Shores zone before he shoveled home a backhander. Assists on the goal went to Verboom and Nate Pietens. On the powerplay, Lambton Shores answered back on a goal by new acquisition Cale Duberry, who was picked up from St. Marys in exchange for former Wallaceburg Lakers forward Brendan Merritt.
After killing four penalties in the second period, Michael Verboom, assisted by Feasey, struck to put the Chatham Maroons up 2-1.
Lambton Shores bounced back in the third period on a goal by Kyle Brothers, however Verboom would again lift the Maroons, scoring the game winner midway through the third period assisted by Sean Myers and Steven Szekesy.
Chatham now holds a 7-point lead over Lambton Shores for the last playoff spot.
Chatham travels to St. Marys next Friday to face the Lincolns before hosting the Sarnia Legionnaires Sunday at Memorial Arena.
