Basketball Finals Set, UCC and John McGregor Set the Stage

They might not have been favoured in both Junior and Senior boys basketball, but the UCC Lancers and John McGregor Panthers will face each other in each KCSSAA final Saturday.

In the Junior semi-finals, UCC handled the Wallaceburg Tartans, pushing to a 20-point lead by the final buzzer with the 57-37 win. Tyler Udvari led the way for UCC with 17-points, while Anol Sagpal was Wallaceburg’s top scorer with 15-points.

John McGregor needed overtime to defeat a strong CKSS Golden Hawks team 57-51 in the other semi-final. Jalen Butcher was a dominating force for the Panthers knocking down 22-points in the win. Rick An had 14-points for CKSS in the loss.

At the senior level, Luke Allin continue to show he is a premier player in the league, scoring 20-points as his UCC Lancers defeated the Wallaceburg Tartans 73-30. Trent Hopkins was Wallaceburg’s top scorer with 11.

At Chatham-Kent Secondary School, the CKSS Golden Hawks hosted the John McGregor Panthers, but the road team would have the last laugh in the low scoring game, as John McGregor walked away with a 43-35 victory. Oshane Daly topped all scorers in the game picking up 19 for the Panthers. Ian Smart was CKSS’ leading scorer totalling 15-points.

The Kent finals will take place this Saturday.
