Beatty King of Kings in OT Thriller, See Photos
Josh Beatty lifted the nearly 800 fans packing the rink in Dresden from their seats only 38-seconds into overtime as he roofed the game winner for the Dresden Kings.
Josh Clements opened the scoring for the Dresden Kings in the first as the Blenheim Blades got out of the gates slowly for the second straight game. As the second period got underway, Aiden Wiebenga scored for Blenheim on the powerplay to tie the game, but the Kings would quickly answer back.
Cody McPhail scored to put the Kings back in the lead, before Josh Beatty scored his first of the game, assisted by Jessie Allen and Dylan Mertz, the same players who would later feed Beatty for the overtime winner.
Midway through the third period, with Dresden appearing to be in control, Justin Rossignol shocked his former team, scoring twice in less than 30-seconds to tie the game 3-3. Thomas Innes would silence the Dresden crowd only two minutes later putting Blenheim ahead 4-3.
The next 7-minutes of the third were filled with fights, and cheap shots from both teams, before a too many men on the ice call against Blenheim put the hometown Kings on the powerplay with only 1:32 remaining.
With 19-seconds left on the clock, the roof almost came off the arena in Dresden as Macks Holmes banged home a rebound following a flurry of saves by Blades goaltender Dylan Vanderpol to send the game to overtime.
In overtime, following a turnover at the Blenheim Blades blueline, Josh Beatty walked in and wired a shot just under the crossbar to lift the Dresden Kings to a 5-4 overtime victory.
The win puts the Kings only one game away from the second round of the Great Lakes playoffs as they now lead the best-of-seven series 3 games to 1. Game 5 takes place Tuesday evening in Blenheim.
