After beating the Wallaceburg Lakers 11-2 Sunday night at home, the Blenheim Blades sharpened their game again Wednesday, this time on the road against Wallaceburg, handing the Lakers an 8-4 loss.

The win also secures first overall in the North Division standings for Blenheim, a position that means a first round match up with the Dresden Kings.

Wednesday in Wallaceburg, Tyler Clarke potted a hat trick for the Blades in the win, while defenseman Neven Wiebenga had a 5-point evening scoring once and adding 4-assists. Wallaceburg’s Norm Leger also had a hat trick in the losing effort and added an assist.

Taylor Phillips and Shawn Hope would open the scoring for the Blenheim Blades getting them out to an early 2-0 lead before Leger cut the lead in half minutes later.

Entering the second period up 2-1, Clarke and Wiebenga padded the Blades lead before Leger scored on the powerplay to cut the score to 4-2. Clarke however, would score again only 2 minutes later putting the Blenheim Blades up 5-2 heading into the third.

Leger scored again to open the third period before an outburst of offense from the Blenheim Blades. Clarke, John McKillop, and Phillips scored making the score 8-3. With the game almost over, Shawn Lubbers scored with 31-seconds left on the clock, shorthanded, to end the game 8-4.

Blenheim will face two difficult games to round out their season, facing both team’s from last years Great Lakes final, the Wheatley Sharks and Belle River Canadiens.
