Blenheim’s Golden Acres Curling Club Receives Financial Support From Council
After struggling to keep afloat, the viability of Blenheim’s Golden Acres Curling Club received a shot in the arm Tuesday night during the Municipality of Chatham-Kent’s budget deliberations.
The curling club, which has been servicing the Blenheim, Ontario community since the 1950’s, asked for and received $5000 to help offset their property taxes.
Upcoming Bonspiels at the club include the D.P.M Mixed event (Feburary 3-5), Agris Senior Tier 60 (February 8), Blenheim Publisher’s Men (February 18), and the Sentry Fire Mixed Senior (February 25).
Blenheim will also host the Kent County high school semi-finals and finals on Wednesday, February 22.
The $5000 levy was a part of more than $140,000 in Municipal support for local programs handed out by Council in Tuesday’s budget deliberations as the Chatham-Kent Municipal Council looks to whittle the budget down to include a 0% tax increase. The proposed increase still sits at 4.75% after beginning at over 7%.
Golden Acres Curling Club is located at 430 Catherine Street in Blenheim, Ontario.
