Chatham Christian Flames Burn Bright in SWOSSAA Win
Chatham Christian played Ecole Secondaire E.J. Lajuenesse from Windsor in the SWOSSAA final, defeating the Windsor School in three straight games.
“It was a huge thrill,” said Chatham Christian coach Sharon Smith, “We’re a small school, it doesn’t happen too often in our school, so that in itself is a huge thrill.”
Chatham Christian High School took the first two games easily 25-8, and 25-6, before Lajuenesse put up a fight in the third and final game; however the Flames eventually took the game 25-17, to grab the SWOSSAA crown.
According to Smith, she was proud of the way her Chatham Christian team played en route to the school’s first Junior girls volleyball SWOSSAA title,
“I think they did really well, they pulled it all together: clean passing, good serving.”
Coach Smith praised the powerful serves of Sandy Hakiza and the blocking of Amy Bultje in the match, players she pointed to as standouts in Tuesday’s victory.
Although Chatham Christian ran away with the SWOSSAA final, Coach Smith said her team did encounter challenges along the way, including a tough 3-1 win in the Kent Final against Blenheim,
“When we played Blenheim in the Kent final, that was probably our strongest competition, and that win was very exciting as well,” explained Smith. “To get to this point was a lot of fun. We thank God for the gift He has given the girls and that they could use those gifts.”
Way to go Flames!
