Chatham Maroons In Dog Fight For Final Playoff Spot

After falling out of the final playoff spot Saturday night with a loss to the Lambton Shores Predators, the Chatham Maroons find themselves again tied for the 8th and final spot after defeating the London Nationals 6-5 Sunday night in Chatham.

Rookie Sam Studnicka, who just turned 17 in January, continued his torrid scoring pace collecting two goals in Sunday night’s win. Studnicka has 6 goals in his last 3 games.

Blake Blondeel also scored twice for Chatham in the first period, after Michael Verboom got things started. The trio of first period goals put Chatham up 3-0.

After allowing London to pull within one goal heading into the third period, Marco Canzoneri would put the game away for the Chatham Maroons, scoring four minutes into the third, with assists headed to Brett Berger and Brett Clarke.

Hunter Johnson was solid in net for the Maroons making 31 saves, while former London Knights goaltender Jack Patterson was chased from the net for the second time in a week for London.

Chatham now travels to Sarnia this Thursday to take on the top ranked Legionnaires.
