Goldrush Continues for Chatham Thunder Ringette

The Boston Pizza U12 Chatham Thunder team came home from the Guelph Ringette Tournament with their second gold medal of the season this weekend. The U12 Thunder won Gold in Tillsonburg the weekend before and Silver in Burlington in a January Tournament.

The Chatham Thunder opened the tournament on Friday with a game against Mississauga winning the opener 8-1. The second game on that day was a match with London. Once again the Thunder dominated this game with a 10-1 win.

The final game in the round robin was against Guelph and the U12 Chatham team skated to an 8-3 victory to earn 1st place in their pool and advanced to the Gold Medal Game on Sunday.

Chatham met Owen Sound in the finals and Olivia Eskritt earned a shut-out in this game winning 7-0. Abbie Chandler led the Thunder in the final game with 4 goals. Niyah Poole, Chantelle Legere and Sorcha Rountree each added a single goal for the win, along with Rachel Benn, Emily Anderson, Evelyn Mckay-Barr, Rachel Carlton, Emily Raaymakers and Regan Owen all assisting on the goals.

The U12 Chatham Thunder team will now resume league play and will prepare for the Regional tournament at the end of March in Guelph.

In other Chatham Thunder ringette news, the Chatham Unigasco Junior A Ringette Team had high hopes for the weekend at the Richmond Hill Tournament, but fell just short of the finals.

They finished 3rd in the round robin, but lost the semi-finals in the last 43 seconds of the game.

Chatham split with Newmarket 4-4 Friday morning, then lost a close 4-3 game to Seaforth Friday night. They followed up this tight game by crushing Paris 8-3 on Saturday morning to proceed to the semi-finals Saturday evening.

The Chatham girls met the hometown team and had a 2 goal lead early in the game, but Richmond Hill came back to tie it up and in the dying seconds of the game, before scoring to end the game with a final score of 3-2, sending Chatham home.

Hannah Doforno had 5 goals on the weekend, including a hat trick. Kara Hueniken had a hat trick and 3 assists. Jane Vanoirschot also contributed a hat trick on the weekend. Lindsay Chandler had 3 goals and an assist while Riley Kay had 2 goals and 2 assists towards the effort. Michelle Raaymakers and Courtney Roberts had 2 assists, while Madison Goodwin and Miriam Alshibli each had an assist. Alissa Reid was strong between the pipes all weekend for the Chatham Thunder.
