Chatham’s Ryan Jones has just launched an online campaign to “Save the Flow.” For anyone who doesn’t know, “flow” is hockey slang for hair, long hair to be exact.

Jones, who has developed an almost cult following in Edmonton as a member of the NHL’s Oilers, has launched a “Save the Flow” campaign, in which he’s asking fans to donate and raise a minimum of $5,000 by February 14. Typically, individuals raise money, which is donated to families and children dealing with life threatening illnesses, in particular cancer, to have their heads shaved, however Jones is taking a different approach, raising money to save his hair.

If the Edmonton Oilers faithful are unable to come up with the funds by February 14, Jones will take part in the “Hair Massacre” and his famous locks will have to go.

Jones, who announced this initiative earlier this week to his more than 60,000 followers, is partnering with the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation to make this fundraiser work.

Tax receipts are being offered for donations of more than $10.
