Jamie Knight Named New Wallaceburg Red Devils Head Coach
Wallaceburg resident Jamie Knight has been named the new head coach of the Wallaceburg Red Devils Junior B lacrosse team.
Last season, Knight was honoured as the Wallaceburg Minor Lacrosse Association coach of the year after leading the Wallaceburg Novice 1 Griffins to the organization’s first ‘A’ ranking in the province in close to 20 years. His Novice 1 team also won the Zone 7 championships finishing with an 18-1-1 regular season record.
The move comes after last seasons coach, Justin Durston, stepped down citing personal conflicts with the organization.
The Wallaceburg Red Devils are coming off their first playoff appearance since 2008, in which they were swept by a powerful Six Nations team. The Red Devils finished the regular season with a 9-10 record.
Joining Jamie Knight on the bench this season with the Wallaceburg Red Devils will be Steve Lilley and Kyle VanDamme, who will both serve as assistant coaches. Lilley served as the assistant coach and trainer for the Bantam Wallaceburg Griffins last season, while Kyle VanDamme was the head coach of the Bantam squad.
The Wallaceburg Red Devils have already started pre-season practices every Wednesday and Saturday in preparation for the upcoming season.
