The Chatham Maroons once held a 10-point lead on the final GOJHL Western Conference playoff position; however, the young team was unable to hold on to the postseason as the final games of the season ticked down.

Sunday night after a 5-3 Chatham loss to the St. Marys Lincolns, and a Lambton Shores Predators 4-2 win over the St. Thomas Stars, the Chatham Maroons were mathematically eliminated from the playoffs.

Thomas Eady and Ian Jacobs put the Maroons up 2-0 in the first period, but they couldn’t hold the lead as David Sproat and Mitchell Fitzmorris scored in the second period to tie the game.

In the third, captain Sean Myers would score the only Chatham goal, while Sean Consitt scored twice, including the game winner with only 16 seconds left in the game to lift the Lincolns.

Down the 401 in St. Thomas, the Lambton Shores Predators ended Chatham’s playoff hopes, and lifted their franchise to their first ever playoff appearance.

“This is a big milestone for our organization and I am so proud of our team,” said Predators GM and Owner Roop Chanderdat. “Our goal this year was to make the playoffs and we can all take a day or so to enjoy this and then back to work.”

Lambton Shores is coached by former Wallaceburg Lakers bench boss Mark Davis. Cody Trowell, who played for the Chatham-Kent Cyclones last season opened the scoring for the Predators.

Chatham will face Leamington this week, followed by LaSalle at home to finish their season.
