Maroons See Playoff Spot Slipping Away
After holding a 10-point lead over last place Lambton Shores only a few short weeks ago, the Chatham Maroons now find themselves in a position they have avoided all season: last place.
Saturday night, the Chatham Maroons travelled to Forest to face the Lambton Shores Predators, with both teams tied at 39-points, but came home out of the playoffs after losing 5-4.
Marco Canzoneri got the Maroons on the board first with Chatham peppering the Predators for 17 shots in the first period.
In the second, Lambton Shores came out with extra jump in their step. Predators forward Brett Thompson scored to tie the game less than a minute into the second period. The two teams would then trade goal in a furious span of just over a minute, with Brennan Feasey scoring for Chatham, followed by Adam Arseneault for Lambton Shores, and Thomas Eady for the Maroons. The three goal spree took just 1:32.
Sam Studnicka would score a shorthanded marker for the Maroons before the second frame was up, sending Chatham into the third period with a 4-2 lead.
The third period however would be all Lambton Shores, as the home team fought back on goals by Arseneault, Corey Pawley, and Thompson, lifting the Predators to the 5-4 win, and temporarily into the final GOJHL Western Conference playoff spot.
Chatham has 5 games remaining in the season, including against London Sunday evening, and in Sarnia this Thursday.
