Silver For Bednarik at OUA Championships

It wasn’t the colour of medal Chatham’s Thomas Bednarik wanted to bring home from the OUA Championships, but he’ll have a chance to redeem himself early next month at the CIS Canadian Championships.

Bednarik finished second, taking home a silver, as a member of the University of Western Ontario, in the long jump competition at the OUA’s this past weekend.

On his first jump of the competition, Bednarik jumped 7.04m, surpassing the 7m mark for the second time this season. Unfortunately, although he entered the competition as the top seed, Bednarik would not take home the gold as Windsor’s Andrew Dandie jumped an incredible 7.15m.

Dandie entered the meet as the second seed behind Bednarik.

Bednarik jumped a season long 7.08m earlier this season at the University of Windsor Team Challenge at the St. Denis Centre. This jump automatically qualified Bednarik for the CIS Championships March 8-10 in Winnipeg.

Bednarik’s UWO Men’s team also finished second overall behind the Windsor Lancers.

UPDATE: Tom Bednarik will not participate in the CIS championships. Bednarik only completed one jump at the OUA’s because he tore his hamstring on his first jump.

Although he is qualified for the CIS Championships, Bednarik will not be available to compete.
