Wallaceburg’s Jamie Vanderveeken has always been known for his booming shot, but with his new team in Wales, Vanderveeken is plying his trade as a set up man.

After leaving Italy earlier this season to join the Cardiff Devils of the Elite Ice Hockey League, a league which spans England, Scotland, Wales, and Ireland, Vanderveeken has played a key role on the blueline for the Devils setting up his teammates.

In 18 games with Cardiff this season, Vanderveeken has collected 11 assists, and finally found the back of the net Sunday evening, scoring his first with Cardiff, the game winner in a 3-2 victory over Edinburgh.

Vanderveeken’s Cardiff Devils are in contention this season currently sitting 4th in the league standings after defeating the Edinburgh Capitals 5-2 Saturday, and 3-2 Sunday.

Manning the point on the powerplay, Vanderveeken picked up an assist in Saturday’s game as well, on a goal by fellow Canadian import Stuart MacRae.

Cardiff next plays Fife, Thursday, February 15 at home.
