The Wallaceburg Lakers handed out their annual awards this weekend after failing to make the playoffs. Wallaceburg’s Jordan Durston, a forward converted to a blueliner this season took home the team’s top honour as the Most Valuable Player, while Lucas Meyskens grabbed two awards.

Durston was 4th on the Wallaceburg Lakers in scoring with 10 goals and 26 assists, for 36 points in 33 games played this season. Durston was the team’s top scoring defenseman.

Lucais Meyskens, also a hometown product, was named the Wallaceburg Lakers Best Defensive Forward, and Most Sportsmanlike Player. Meyskens, a tireless worker and penalty killer, tied for the team lead in short handed goals with 2, while scoring a total of 11 goals and 28 points this season.

Kyle Jacobson of Sterling Heights, Michigan, took home Best Defenseman. Jacobson joined the team late, but was solid on the blueline throughout the final months of the season. In 25 games, Jacobsson had 12 points, second among team defenseman.

Jeff Nolfo, one of the Lakers top offensive threats, won Rookie of the Year. Nolfo is an older rookie, already 19 years of age, scored 18 goals for the Lakers this season. On many nights, in the absence of Norm Leger who was honoured as the team’s top scorer, Nolfo, who is also a Michigan product, was the team’s top player.

Other awards went to Cam Fraser (most improved player), Shawn Lubber (most dedicated), Scott Lubbers (heart and soul award), and Robert Towsley (gigit award).

The Wallaceburg Lakers did not qualify for the playoffs after finishing the season last overall with a 9-29-2 record.
