Wallaceburg’s Mapletoft Third at Ontario Tankard

Matt Mapletoft - CurlingWallaceburg’s Matt Mapletoft fell just short of the Dominion Tankard Ontario Curling Championships final, but managed a 3rd place finish in Stratford.

Immediately following his final day in Stratford, Mapletoft took to social media, posting this message of thanks to his friends, family, and fans,

“Thanks everyone for the amazing support we had all week. 3rd behind Corner and Howard. Great week and a lot of fun.”

Mapletoft was competing with the Thornhill Curling Club, eventually falling in the semi-final 8-5 to Peter Corner’s team. Corner would then fall to former Olympic medallist and World Champion Glenn Howard.

Mapletoft’s team was skipped by Mike Anderson and also included Chris Van Huyse and Sean Harrison.

Howard will now represent Ontario at the 2012 Brier.

In 2010, Matt Mapletoft won a Canadian National Junior Curling Championship, and a bronze medal at the World Junior Curling Championships in Switzerland. Mapletoft also won a Canadian University Curling Championship as a member of Wilfrid Laurier University.
