Blackbird Qualifies For Nationals, Cobra’s Take Home Gold

7 members of Cobra’s Taekwondo Training Centre competed on the weekend of March 24th and 25th in Kitchener at Connestoga College. Both days were fully sanctioned by the Ontario Taekwondo Association. Day 1 the U.T.A. Challenge and day 2 was the Senior Ontario Black Belt Team Trials.

Joshua Hoekstra (11) earned silver in the 11 – 12 years old yellow to green stripe division.

Annelise Garapick (12) celebrated her birthday with winning gold in the 11 – 12 years old blue to red stripe division.

Ryan Hoekstra (13) competed in the 13–14 years old white to blue stripe division where he also won gold.

Candace Dunn (13) won bronze in the 13–14 years old green to blue stripe division.

Katlyn Doxtator (14) competed in the 13–14 years old red to black stripe division where she won gold.

Jewelian Blackbird (13) won silver in the high performance 13 – 14 years old Olympic Black Belt division. Jewelian also competed in the high performance 15 – 17 years old Olympic Black Belt division and made her way to finals to go heads up with her older sister earning silver.

Alyssa Blackbird (16) won gold in the high performance 15 – 17 years old Olympic Black Belt division. Alyssa still a Junior athlete also tried out for the Senior Ontario Black Belt Team on day 2 of the competition. She made her way to the semi-finals winning bronze. She has earned a spot on the team and is eligible for competing at the Senior Nationals to be held in Toronto on Canada Day weekend.

Team Cobra’s is also seeking sponsorships for next seasons 2013 Canadian National Championships tentatively scheduled for British Columbia and also for 2013 U.S. Open tentatively scheduled for Las Vegas.
