Carleton Leads Midget Wildcats to Bronze
The Chatham-Kent Wildcats Midget Girls Basketball team finished with a bronze medal this weekend in the Guelph division one tournament.
The Wildcats began the weekend by beating Pelham with a score of 43-22. Leading scorers were Bridget Carleton with 14, Megan Muir and Devyn Demars with 8 each.
In the 2nd game of pool play on Saturday the Wildcats met up with Hamilton Blessed Sacrement and won the game with a score of 45-28. Leading the way was Paige Johnson with 17, and Krystine Goodison with 8.
The last pool game was against the home team Guelph CYO. With a final score of 61-45 the Wildcats secured a first place finish in their pool and a spot in the medal rounds. Carleton had 21 and Hope Long 12.
On Sunday the Chatham-Kent Wildcats lost a close battle to Scarborough Blues 46-44 and delegated to the bronze medal game where they again would meet the home Guelph team. In the loss Carleton had 18 and Demars and Keely Bossy had 7. The Wildcats came out strong and finished with a 65-49 victory and a bronze medal. Kelsey Nydam led the way with 21 points, Carleton picked up 16, and Laura Polowick chipped in with 8. The Wildcats will now prepare for the annual Blessed Sacrement tournament in Hamilton in April.
