Chatham Thunder Ringette Teams Roar
The Chatham Thunder Tween “A” Ringette team sponsored by Maple City Electric travelled to Dorchester on Sunday February 26. The girls came away with a big 10-0 win, with the shut-out earned by goalie Sarah Woods. Goals were scored for Chatham by: Julia Stephens(3), Carys Owen (2), Tess Scaman, Brooke Marchand, Taylor Dziver, Tristen Stewart and Pyper Copeland. Assists went to Tess Scaman (2), Pyper Copeland (2), Vivian Dowdal(2), Carys Owen (2), and Claire Hedrick.
On March 4, the Thunder played their last league game, hosting Forest before heading to Ottawa to compete in the Ontario Ringette Provincial Championships. The girls came out strong and played hard but fell behind early and could never catch up. Scoring for Chatham in the 3-1 loss was Taylor Dziver. Assists went to Kendra Goodwin and Carys Owen.
The Ontario Ringette Championships begin in Ottawa March 14-18.
The Chatham Thunder U10 ringette team travelled to Dorchester hoping to maintain their undefeated status. Dorchester came on strong but could not find the net. Chatham would score six in the first half and a single in the second beating Dorchester 7-0. The U10 squad went undefeated in regular session play with a 20-0-0 record.
Goals were netted as follows: Erica Anderson from Lydia Harron, Natasha Anderson from Courtney Legere, Camille Blain unassisted, Courtney Legere from Kylyn Murphy, Delaney George from Erica Anderson, Erica Anderson unassisted, and finally Media Harron from Courtney Legere.
Audrey MacKay-Barr was in net for her seventh shutout in 20 games. Chatham leads the Western Division and will meet the Eastern Division leaders at Regional’s in Guelph at the end of the month.
The Chatham Unigasco Junior A Ringette Team ended their regular season with 2 in the win column on the weekend. The girls were hosts to Forest Saturday morning, winning 4-2. On Sunday they tied and beat Waterloo in a double-header at home, 3-3 and 8-1. Kara Hueniken had 4 goals over the weekend and Riley Kay had a hat trick in Sunday’s win. Nicole Hook had 3 goals over the weekend and Hannah Doforno contributed 2. Jane Vanoirschot and Tristan Stewart each added singles to the effort. The girls are off for a couple weeks, preparing for the Provincial Championship in Ottawa at the end of March Break. They are ranked 8th in the province, going into the tournament.
The Boston Pizza U12 Regional Team ended their league play with a win Sunday over Seaforth 6-3. The U12 team finished 1st in the Western Region Ringette League (WRRL). They will play in the Regional Tournament in Guelph the last weekend of March on the Championship side of the tournament.
Chantelle Legere, Rachel Benn and Abbie Chandler all scored two goals each in the win. Evelyn Mckay-Barr, Emily Anderson, Niyah Poole and Emily Raaymakers all provided assists for the win. Olivia Eskritt was the winning goalie.
