One more loss will equal one summer of heartache for the Dresden Jr. Kings. Tuesday night after evening the series the night before, the Dresden Kings failed to muster an attack against the Essex 73’s on the road. Essex on the other hand could do no wrong defeating the Kings 7-2.

After Cam Ross got Dresden on the board first, Essex poured on the pressure, storming back with four unanswered first period goals. Dylan Solecki scored first for Essex, followed by Rio Anzolin and Matthew Hebert scoring shorthanded goals on the same Dresden powerplay. With time winding down in the first period Adam Dunmore scored again for the 73’s to send them into the first intermission leading 4-1.

The second period was much of the same as Dresden failed to hit the scoresheet while Essex continued to slip pucks behind Dresden goaltender Brent Paxton who has been a key to the Kings’ success this playoff. Dan Bacon and Corey Beaulieu scored second period goals for Essex to put the home team ahead 6-1 heading into the third period.

To open the third, Solecki scored his second of the game to increase the Essex lead to 7-1. Jeremy Griffore would score again for the Kings, although it was too little too late for Dresden as the game would end 7-2 in favour of the Essex 73’s.

Game 6 of the series will take place in Dresden on Friday March 9 with puck drop at 7:30pm.
