Early Spring Means Early Fishing – Lake St. Clair Fishing Report
With the spring time now fully upon us, the fishing has began to pick up as the water temperature in Lake St. Clair and Mitchell’s Bay begins to rise.
Perch fishing the 8-10 foot range between the XE2 and XE4 markers has been good and will continue to get better for a few more weeks. Minnows and anchoring on top of the fish with a perch rig have been producing very well.
Bluegills and Crappie are in full swing in the shallow waters. Any docks, marina, small creek, shallow weed bed or structure will be holding these fish. Try fishing 12in. to 24in. under a small bobber, with either a waxworm or a minnow and you should be able to land yourself a couple Panfish.
The odd walleye may show up on the Lake right now. Watch for them to be on a post spawn feed at the mouth the Thames River in the future weeks to come. The Detroit River is excellent spot for serious ‘Eye action this time of year as well.
Its a great time of year to be out fishing but please remember that even though the air temperature is nice out, that the water temperature may still be chilly.
