Greenville, South Carolina might seem like a long way from Chatham-Kent, but for two local hockey products, it’s home. Jason Missiaen of Chatham and Wes Cunningham of Dresden, both play for the city’s ECHL franchise, the Greenville Road Warriors.

Just like last season, the Road Warriors are atop the ECHL’s Eastern Conference, neck and neck with the Elmira Jackals. Both teams have 72 points, with roughly a dozen games remaining in the season.

Wes Cunningham, who was an All-Star last season for the Road Warriors, and finished second in the ECHL voting for the league’s top defenseman is having another solid season with 2 goals and 21 assists in 42 games. More importantly, Cunningham has earned multiple call ups to the AHL’s Bridgeport Sound Tigers, playing 5 games this season in the American League.

Joining Cunningham this season with the Road Warriors, is Chatham’s Jason Missiaen, who signed a contract with the New York Rangers in the offseason, and has immediately assumed the starting goaltender position with Greenville.

Missiaen has a 0.907 save percentage with the Road Warriors this season and has picked up 16 wins in 31 games. Missiaen also heard the call from the AHL this season making the trip up to join the Connecticut Whale, however he only served as a backup during his stint in the AHL.

With playoffs now on their mind, the Greenville Road Warriors will look to avenge a second round playoff loss to the Wheeling Nailors last season as they load up for a deeper playoff run this season.
