Steve Shaw Jr. Learning Tricks of the Trade at Race 101
When the 2012 season at South Buxton Raceway kicks off this spring, Steve Shaw Jr. of Merlin will show up more knowledgeable and more prepared.
Shaw was given a scholarship to Race 101, a racing school in North Carolina that he started attending this offseason, and will continue to visit in the coming months. Steve Shaw Jr. called the program at Race 101 insightful and informative,
“It’s an informative program, I’ve learned a lot I didn’t know in a short period of time. It’s very insightful into motorsports” said Shaw Jr.
It’s not just the skills of driving that Shaw and his classmates are learning in North Carolina. The program aims to educate drivers on other important topics including marketing themselves in motorsports in order to help these young drivers find sponsors and build opportunities. It would seem for Shaw, the lessons are working,
“I already got a new National sponsor, E3 Spark Plugs, because of the program. Race 101 has helped me progress enough to go after bigger sponsors this season,” said Shaw Jr.
Though he’s experienced growth at Race 101, which is put on by Howe Racing, Steve Shaw Jr, who has spent much of the winter rebuilding the front of his car, is still looking forward to racing this summer at South Buxton Raceway where he competed in the Tirecraft Comp 4s series last season,
“Buxton is a unique racetrack,” explained Shaw. “The racing is awesome every night. It’s good, clean dirt track racing that the fans love watching.”
Now that Shaw has experienced the Race 101 program for himself, he’s also hoping that other local drivers will apply to the school, which he believes can be a huge asset to racers,
“It’s a great program. At the end of this year they will be taking on more drivers again, so hopefully this is a program more people from up here can use to get better and benefit our local racing.”
The 2012 South Buxton Raceway schedule gets underway May 5 for Opening Night.
