Former Chatham Outlaws and Chatham-Kent Cyclones player Meghan Agosta is headed to the Women’s World Hockey Championships gold medal game after Team Canada defeated Finland 5-1 in the semi-final Friday afternoon.

Agosta has three goals and two assists in four games for Canada in the tournament.

After being relatively quiet in Canada’s early blowout wins, Agosta came up big in the semi-final game against Finland. In the first period, Agosta assisted on Laura Fortino’s goal. Then, Agosta opened the second period scoring from Gillian Apps and Brianne Jenner to put Canada up 3-0.

Canada will likely face the United States in Saturday’s gold medal game, which will be televised on TSN at 7:00pm. Canada has lost the last three IIHF World Women’s Hockey Championships to the United States, last winning gold in 2007.

Agosta played for the Montreal Stars this season in the Canadian Women’s Hockey League, setting a new league record for most points in a season.
