Blenheim Shuts Out Tartans, Lancers Win in Junior Football Openers
The Blenheim Bbocats and UCC Lancers both started their KCSSAA Junior Football season’s with convincing wins Thursday.
In Blenheim, the Bobcats pounced on every opportunity against the Wallaceburg (WDSS) Tartans, picking up a 24-0 shutout win. Dalton Shuian led the Blenheim offense with 206 rushing yards, including 40- and 8-yard runs in the first half.
Brayden McTavish, who ran for 106-yards in the game also scored a touchdown in the first half on a 5-yard carry to put the Blenheim Bobcats ahead 18-0 at the half.
Richard Foster, Blenheim’s quarterback through a 10-yard touchdown to Cody Miller in the second half to put the game away. It was then up to Blenheim’s defense to shut down Wallaceburg, which they did. Shuain was a force on both sides of the ball, leading the Blenheim defense with 10 tackles and an interception.
In Chatham, the Chatham-Kent Secondary School Golden Hawks hosted the UCC Lancers, with the Lancers cruising to an 18-7 win.
Anthony Cunha got the UCC Lancers on the board first pulling down a 20-yard touchdown pass from UCC quarterback John McCauley. On top of his TD reception, Cunha finished the game with 134 rushing yards for UCC.
Brady Shepherd scored next for the Lancers on a 24-yard rush, before the CKSS Golden Hawks got on the board Blain Kwiatkowski punching in a 3-yard run. Late in the game, Keenan Clark matched Kwiatkowski’s run step for step, with his own 3-yard touchdown increase the Lancers’ lead, and ensuring their 18-7 win.
