CK Local Athlete of the Week: Steven Beenackers
The CK Local Athlete of the Week for the period of April 1 – April 7 is Muirkirk’s Steven Beenackers.
Beenackers, a grade 11 student at Ridgetown District High School, was selected in the 9th round of the OHL Priority Draft Saturday by the Owen Sound Attack.
Beenackers was the captain of the Chatham-Kent Cyclones Minor Midget ‘AAA’ team this past season and led the team in scoring with 5 goals and 5 assists in 30 regular season games.
Standing 6’2″, Beenackers also played an integral part on the Ridgetown Royals high school hockey team this season, leading his team to an impressive 2nd place finish in their first year back in the KCSSAA loop after a multi-year hiatus. Beenackers scored in 7 of the Ridgetown Royals 10 regular season games this year.
Beenackers is the first Chatham-Kent Cyclones player to be drafted since Seth Griffith, Dane Fox, and Kyle Hope, who all currently play in the OHL, were selected in 2009.
Congratulations to Steven on his selection in the OHL draft, and on being named the CK Local Athlete of the Week.
