Durston Powers Red Devils to Comeback Win
Wallaceburg’s Justin Durston had an 11-point game powering the Wallaceburg Red Devils to a comeback 14-13 win over the Guelph Rebels Saturday afternoon at home.
Reid Miller and Jordan VanDamme each scored twice in the first period for Wallaceburg who was looking to build on their home opener win Wednesday over division rival Sarnia.
In the second period, Guelph stormed out and played solid throughout the frame taking a two goal lead into the third. Clint Lamarsh scored twice in the second period, while VanDamme, Durston, and Rob Pollock also scored. Pollock was close behind Durston in the game in overall scoring picking up 9-points (two goals, seven assists) in the game.
Opening the third, the Red Devils came out with renewed fire, with VanDamme and Pollock scoring quick goals for Wallaceburg to tie the game. Guelph would get another before VanDamme and Durston would score to put the Red Devils up by one with less than four minutes to play.
With just over two minutes to go in the game, Guelph’s Matt Pelkey would score his 5th goal of the game to help the Rebels regain a one goal lead.
Then, with only 41-seconds left on the clock, Wallaceburg’s Joel Shepley scored his first goal of the night and second of the season to lift the Red Devils to a 14-13 win.
Durston was named the game’s first star with his two goal, nine assist performance, and now has 26-points in 3 games to lead the OLA Junior B Lacrosse league in scoring.
