Chatham’s Jordan Deneau is excited for new challenges next season as he graduates from the local Chatham-Kent Cougars Varsity football program, as well as high school football, and moves on to compete for a roster spot with the Windsor Lancers.

“It was a very exciting time for me,” explained Deneau who committed to the University of Windsor Lancers earlier this spring. “After meeting with coach (Joe) D’Amore during my visit to Windsor, and listening to what he had to say about the future of Lancer football, I knew Windsor was the place for me.”

Deneau, who is a UCC Lancers product, also pointed to having the opportunity to continue learning from Sel Jordan, the president and coach of the Varisty Cougars, who also coaches in Windsor, as an incentive to attend Windsor.

Through his development, which included a spot with the Ontario Rising Stars in a regional all-star game last season, as well as Team Ontario West at the Canadian Championships, Deneau recognizes his time playing football in Chatham-Kent with the CK Cougars has been paramount in opening the door for this opportunity,

“Having an early start to football was definitely a key factor. I was lucky enough to be at the proper age when the program was starting at the peewee level. Even though the first two years, we had to drive to Windsor for the games it was that early experience that allowed us to learn the fundamentals prior to high school like those before us.”

In a previous interview, Windsor Coach Joe D’Amore expressed his mutual, positive expectations for Deneau stating, “Jordan is a big strong kid coming out of high school. We feel he can contribute immediately because of his size. We are excited about his potential.”

Even with his size, Jordan Deneau will return for another season of preparation with the Chatham-Kent Cougars this summer, and will be hitting the gym to prepare for the jump to the OUA level with the University of Windsor next season,

“Strength and conditioning are at the top of my list. I need to be in the best shape possible to compete at this level. I am also looking forward to playing for the Cougar varsity team this summer.”
