Red Devils Out Run Pacers in Home Opener
After losing a tight one goal game on the road this weekend to start their season, the Wallaceburg Red Devils bounced back in style, defeating the Sarnia Pacers 17-6 in their home opener at Wallaceburg Memorial Arena.
Wallaceburg was unstoppable in the first period scoring seven unanswered goals. Mike Myers started the scoring, while Clint Lamarsh, Mitch Burton, Nate Carrol, and Jordan Durston each scored a single goal in the period. Rob Pollock scored twice in the first frame en route to a two goal, four assist, six point performance.
Durston finished the game with five goals and two assists. Clint Lamarsh and Jordan VanDamme each had a hat trick and added an assist, Nate Carrol had a goal and four assists, while Mitch Burton finished with a goal and three assists. Joel Shepley scored the other Wallaceburg Red Devils goal.
Often their weak point last season, it appears goaltending will be a strength this year for the Red Devils with Ryan Schuetzkowski made 35 saves in the win.
Durston was named the games first star and now has 8 goals and 7 assists in his first two games of the season.
Wallaceburg will welcome Guelph to town Saturday with the game getting underway at 4pm at Memorial Arena. Wallaceburg will then travel to Sarnia next Wednesday to face the Pacers at Clearwater Arena.
