After struggling against more experienced teams in their first games against Blenheim and UCC, the Wallaceburg Tartans got to battle someone in their own weight class Monday night and came out victorious for their first win in girls rugby.

Wallaceburg defeated the Belle River Nobles 22-10 Monday night. Not only did this mark the Tartans first win of the season, it marked their first points of the season, and first win in their welcome back season after a decade hiatus away from rugby in Wallaceburg.

Alyssa Blackbird, Teagan Smith, Halley Jeff, and Emily Ross had the tries for the WDSS Tartans rugby team, while Rachel Mazur kicked the conversions.

The game was being played as a rainout for the team’s originally scheduled March 28 game which was rained out.

This is Belle River’s first season fielding a rugby team as well. Wallaceburg will travel to Belle River on April 20 for a rematch of the two teams.

In other rugby action, Blenheim will face UCC to try an avenge an early season loss this Friday.
