Wallaceburg Lakers Fire Coaching Staff
The Wallaceburg Lakers will be going a new direction again next season after parting ways with their entire coaching staff Thursday.
After finishing with a 9-29-2 record this season, last place in the Great Lakes Junior C Hockey League, the Wallaceburg Lakers executive fired the entire coaching staff, including head coach BJ Charpentier, and assistants Nash Lozon, and Chris Lalonde.
Moments after learning he would not be returning next season, former head coach BJ Charpentier made this statement, “Good Luck next year Wallaceburg Lakers. Thanks for the 6 years, it was a great opportunity.”
The trio of young coaches took over from long time coach Mark Davis after he left the team taking several veterans with him to coach the Lambton Shores Predators Junior B team.
The move came as a surprise to many in Wallaceburg after the Lakers held their annual general meeting earlier this week, and did not make the coaching decision there. Pat Henderson was named team president for the coming sea
son at the meeting.
Following the decision to shift directions in terms of coaching, one member of the team executive also stepped down.
This was Charpentier’s second go around as head coach of the Wallaceburg Lakers, while Lozon and Lalonde were both recent team captains. The team dropped from first to last in the Great Lakes loop in only one season, however, it was also accompanied by a huge turnover of veteran players.
No coaching replacements were named at the time of this post.
