Balkwill Named to MAAC All-Academic Team

Chatham’s Larry Balkwill has been named to the MAAC All-Academic. The Junior, who plays for the Siena College Saints finished the season with a 3.41 GPA.

The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference announced the All-Academic team’s earlier this week. To be eligible for the honour, student-athlete’s must have completed at least two semesters at their institution and hold a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.20.

Six athletes from Siena College made the grade for the All-Academic team including Balkwill, who is a Ursuline College graduate.

Balkwill finished his college season with a .281 batting average. He also led the Siena Sients in several batting categories including home runs (6), RBIs (29), slugging percentage (.449), and on base percentage (.381).

This summer, Balkwill will play for the Haymarket Senators of the Valley Baseball League. The league was founded in 1923 before becoming NCAA sanctioned, and has produced more than 1000 Major League Baseball players.
