Doey, Stallaert Golden in Michigan

The Chatham Skating Club travelled over the border with 9 of its’ skaters to compete this past weekend, May 17-20, in Ann Arbor, Michigan at the Springtime Invitational Skating Competition. This was the first time many of the club’s skaters have competed abroad, while many of them were skating at a new level to initiate their competitive season, while some skated in a unique event, not offered in our Section.

In Novice Ladies Short Program, Ashley Glassco placed 9th among 18 ladies at her first attempt in this division. Later she placed 5th in the Novice Ladies Long FreeSkate, while Paige Newman placed 12th in her respective flight of the same latter category.

In Intermediate (Pre-Novice) Ladies Short Program, Olivia Stallaert’s debut placed 9th among 16 skaters.

Hannah Ross tried her skates in PreJuvenile Ladies for the first time and placed 6th. She also placed 5th in Intermediate Ladies Test Track.

During Preliminary Compulsory Ladies, Ashley Hudson placed 5th and Emily Zimmer took 6th place in their respective flights. During the Preliminary Spins event, Hudson was 7th and Zimmer placed 9th during the single flight. While at Preliminary Jumps, Hudson was 5th and Zimmer was 6th.

At the Preliminary Ladies Test Track event, Gabrielle Doey landed the Gold Medal, while Ashley Hudson placed 5th, Rihana Kukkadi was 7th and Emily Zimmer placed 8th, all in their respective flights. Doey also brought back her second Gold Medal as she competed in Pre-Preliminary Compulsory Ladies.

The Showcase events saw Ashley Hudson take home the Bronze Medal in the Preliminary/PreJuvenile Dramatic event, while Emily Zimmer was 9th place during the Preliminary Entertainment event.

Zachary Stallaert landed centre podium with his Gold Medal at the Pre-Preliminary Boys Freeskate Event.
